The members of Kirtipur Volunteer Society (KVS) today successfully conducted a 'dhunge dhara' (stone tap) cleaning programme. It cleaned Khona Hiti, one of the stone taps of Kirtipur. The tap is located at Nyamha Sima, near Nepal Bhasa Academy. Among the various stone taps situated in Kirtipur, Khona Hiti was in a very critical condition. At present there is no running water. The tap was all surrounded by weeds. Due to the escalation of soil, plastic and other junks, the source of water has been blocked. According to the sources, the discharge of spout in this tap used to be 3384 in wet season and 1080 in dry ones.

Many stone taps of Kirtipur are in deteriorating condition and need immediate attention. The participants of this programme intend to conduct cleanliness activity in other stone taps as well. KVS is a youth based social organization which conducts many such programmes in Kirtipur mobilizing the youths as volunteers.
