Contentment

Contentment

Once there was an ascetic with his magic- bowl visiting in a small village ruled by a king back then. The miracle inherent in that bowl was that though it was small, it could not be filled full- almost all the people in the village market have gathered and tried to fill it but could not succeed. The rumor reached the King’s ears and he himself with his treasures come to satisfy that magic bowl- he brought gold coins, silver coins and so on but tried in vain. The king was sweating and nervous as his carts full of rice and wheat could not fill as well. He accepted his failure of contending that bowl and asked the ascetic about the reason behind it. The ascetic said that the only thing that is to be known about is that the bowl is made-up from the human- mind. How can one satisfy this human- mind? It’s an excerpt from one of the discourses from Osho. Is contentment so much far from us as symbolically represented in this excerpt; or how easy is it to be content in self…?
