Gathamuga this year

The Gathamuga festival takes place during the month of Shrawan (July/August). This year it was celebrated on July 21, 2017.This festival marks the beginning of other festivals of Hindu and Buddhist in Kathmandu.

The festival features chasing away demons from homes in a symbolic manner. In the festival, demons, made of wheat straw, are erect at every street and the demons made of a straw are burnt outside of city at the evening. Lakhe Naach begins from the day at different places around valley.

On this day, people wear metal rings, which believed to have the power to safeguard people from all ills and evil spirits.
