Kirtipur. Janai Purnima is one of the festivals that is celebrated all over Nepal. On this occasion people from Brahmin and Cheetri community change their old Janai (a sacred thread) with new one. Same day people also tie a “Doro”(colorful thread) around their wrest prepared by priests.

People from Terai also celebrate this festival as Rakchhya Bandhan. Sisters tie attractive Rakhis on their brothers' wrists wishing them healthy and long life.

Newar community celebrate this day as a day to feed a frog. People leave leaf plates with rice and kwati (sprout soup made of nine different beans) for frogs in their paddy fields. They believe that frogs help in bringing rain and there is also a myth that once upon a time frog helped people killing a daemon.
